Hey all, I am in the market for a new cordless drill. Whats the best buy anyone has seen. I really like the bosch as we have them at work but they are really expensive. I'de like a 18v or bigger. I was just wondering if anyone knows of a place that has really good prices. Thanks

I got a 18v Hitachi hammer drill new off Ebay for $110. I sure like it!

It sure has lived up to all the reviews!

Before you purchase check on battery replacement as that is where most of your cost will come. Also more the voltage the heavier the drill and more chance for batteries going bad 18v system has 2x more batteries than a 9v system and that increases your chances for battery problems.

I've gone thru the Skil, B&D and DeWalt line of drills. Very happy now with the LithiumIon batteries in a Ridgid drill I bought last summer. Other than being somewhat fickle and not wanting to start charging right away when its under 32 degrees, I'm very pleased. I thought the investment would pay for itself in warranty for replacment batteries and repair if needed.

I've had most every brand and the absolute best I've had has been Makita, just get the kit with the case, two batteries, 18 volts, and yes you can buy replacement batteries in the heavy duty type You get what you pay for,buy a good one,you won't be sorry !! Jim

If you're looking for a good buy, and not necessarily the best tool, I bought a Ryobi 18V set that has a drill, circular saw, dustbuster, and a couple other things, to keep at my vacation home. I also got their 18V chainsaw which uses the same batteries. I figured I'd just get the cheap Ryobi since I wouldn't be using it much, but I've been pleasantly surprised by them. I used the circular saw as my primary saw when I installed hardwood floor there last summer, and it held up great, even though it had set for two years without being used, and even though I was using it in California desert heat. You can buy better cordless tools, but for the price, those Ryobis sure impressed me. The chainsaw is also nice to have, since I don't need to keep a can of gas around to go stale and be a fire hazard. It cuts slow, and only has about a 10 inch bar, but works good for trimming the dead branches off the pinyon pines and junipers we have there.

I got a nice makita set from amazon with a drill, impact driver, light, 2 batteries and a charger in a case for 225 bucks. Don't know where it's been all my life...

Hey thanks for the info i'll keep this in mind. I like the looks of the makita drill, guess I didn't even know they made one, i've had a makita angle grinder for 10 or more years and that thing wont die. Maby their drills are just as stout.

Ryobi is my suggestion....I only buy them for my electrical contracting buisness....you cant beat them for the price....yeah they sometimes wear out sooner than a Milwaukee....but you can buy 4 Ryobi s for 1 Milwaukee.....And if I drop a Ryobi off the top of a grain bin....barn roof....or in manure pit....well...I still sleep pretty easy at night.....

I would spend the money and get one with a lithium ion battery. They are alot lighter and I think the NiCd batteries are going to get more expensive and harder to come by as the lithium tools become more popular. I have a 14.4v Milwaukee cordless drill and I love it. I got right before the 18v stuff starting becoming popular. I already replaced 1 battery and now the second one is junk. Lowe's, HD, Menards don't stock them anymore but can order them. My local hardware has about 4 left on their shelf. They want 80 bucks for one. I think I only gave like 225 for the drill, charger and both batteries.

With charger or not? I couldn't tell by the ad.

That 770 bucks is no BS. You should see what they cost in the land of Bosch.
