I took my 8n to a engine meet Saturday and came home with this. A Fairbanks Morse 3 hp. Z 800 rpm. S/N SU 931917. I would like to know the age and any other info about this motor. I was told it hadn't been run in over 10 yrs. It has anti freeze in it and it rolls over smooth with good spark the gas tank is clean with no leaks. I spent some time cleaning and checking things over the governor rod moved freely valves open and close. After changing the oil I poured a little gas in the small chamber on the carburetor opened the needle valve about a turn and rolled it over, it started on the 6th try and smoked quite a bit until I turned the needle valve in a little it smoothed out and stopped smoking and ran well for several minutes. Now I know it runs I am back to cleaning both motor and cart. Thanks for any info you may share with me. flembo

I really can't offer much, but replying since no one else did. From 1942 on for next 20 years, I lived next door to a cotton gin powered by a two cylinder FB engine just like the 3 cylinder pictured here, and an engine looking like yours was used to run an air compressor. The compressed air was used to start the big engine.

Now that is an engine I guess they don't get hauled around to engine meets just for fun.
