Iveco Diesel

Neighbor has a sawmill powered by an older Iveco diesel. It was acting up so he pulled the injection pump and sent it off for a rebuild. When he went to reinstall the pump he realized that there is no keyway slot to line it up for timing purposes. He doesn't have internet access and I have been trying to help him find a shop manual or a process to set the timing on the pump. Anything I have been able to find is for newer Ivecos and/or doesn't have the pump timing included. My best guess is that there has to be some sort of a special tool needed but even then there has to be a set point around TDC to set it to. Any suggestions? It is an Iveco Model 450NE, Type 7450 U 00A800 with a Lucas Delpha pump.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered, the old guy is about beside himself.

Seems that wherever he sent the pump should be able to give him some guidance.

One would think but they haven't been particularly helpful. They see their role as having been fulfilled in returning the pump set for #1.

Set the engine for top dead center number compression
stroke both valves closed and install the pump would be what

It may come to that but it would be a crapshoot. Most pumps are timed a bit BTDC, so one would have to guess what the advance would be on this one. Only a few degrees off and it could be beyond the range of the timing adjustment slots. The odds of a positive result would be improved immensely if one had the specs.

I just talked to "Eric" at "Mid Atlantic Engine Supply" in Cinnaminson, New Jersey, a very nice gentleman to talk to, and he may be able to help, seems very knowledgeable..

There MAY be an engine serial number, as well that would help him help you.

Lacking any other information for that
particular engine the pump for my Case
W11B with 4B Cummins is like that. That
particular pump is returned to the
installer locked at #1. The timing gear
case has a push pin that goes in to a
recess when the gear is signed up. InstLl
pump, torque the nut, done. Your engine
may have a push pin or may have to line
up a timing mark. Certain New holland
tractors use that brand engine, one of
thier techs might be of assistance?
