Unknown Chinese 149.5cc engine

I have a generator that is a backup to our farm here in Australia , the men at the tool forum have been very helpful but I need further information .

It is a 3.5kw generator powered by an engine that no one seems to recognise . I don't think it is a Honda clone as it doesn't look like any I have ever seen .
These generators are sold all around the world including the USA .

They differ only in name and colour and the regulated output voltage according to the country .
Can anyone recognise this engine , I realise the photos are not great but they are the best I can do without the huge job of removing the entire casing . I did read that it may be a Hyundai but that is unconfirmed .
I want to check the oil alert sender unit , it only has one wire , unlike the Hondas . I can't get a spark from it despite changing the coil . Next step is a new ignition module

here's an thought..lets say the oil switch grounds to stop the engine.
un plug the single wire from the harness, and check for spark, spark yes= switch problem.
hope it helps
I would say keep your stick on the ice...hard to do on your island.
but on a side note the news here [Canada] is very little about the wild fires, still a major concern
in some areas or weather has changed the situation?

just re-thinking this a bit...how about putting an ohm meter on the switch wire and it will
read either an open circuit or a closed circuit between it and the engine casing.
then just either un plug the switch as mentioned or ground the wire to the engine in case
the engine is wired to use a ground as part of the coil circuit.
basically the opposite of what ever the switch is now?
Sure someone else has the right answer for what ever engine you have.

Thanks very much Phil , I tried your logical suggestion yesterday afternoon but sadly it didn't solve the problem . I'm waiting on a new ignition module now and hopefully that will solve things .
For a moderately priced generator this unit has some nice refinements , as well as an oil alert it also has an oil filter , inline fuel filter and remote start and stop . Still , none of these are worth anything unless I can get it to go .

The Bush fires here in Victoria were stopped by floods of all things ! It was a truly dreadful season and caused so much heartbreak and misery , especially in Gippsland where my farm is .
Fire , Flood and Pestilence ! I should have paid more attention to the Nuns at school :(

Well so much for my two cents worth.:) hope the module is at fault and you get up and running soon before needing it.
you mentioned you got burned on the grasslands? so naturally I think sheep are your business?
Mother had a cousin years back in Adelaide? [sp?], long passed on, but we had a great/great daughter of hers travel across
this area about 5 years back, she was tracking down names and faces.
and that's it for trivia info.
as they say in the movies.
time for a walk about...

It lives !
Yesterday I returned to Melbourne and the part had just arrived , it had taken weeks to come by post from Sydney as the postal service is so busy .
So despite it being absolutely freezing and howling a gale I spent an hour in the shed swapping the ignition modules over . Started first pull !
Runs dreadfully though , needs full choke all the time then eventually stalls after two or three minutes , but it runs and that means I can probably fix the rest .
Many thanks from across the pond .

Thanks Derwen , it was one of the first things I checked . I bought the correct replacement and fitted it in any case but switch no effect .
It starts and runs on choke for about a minute , as all as the rpm increases even by a small margin it runs well for a second then dies .

I really do wish it was fuel quality Derwen , one of the first things I did was drain the tank and replace the fuel . I'm starting to suspect a valve fault now.
