Wisconsin 4 banger

I'm new here and in a bind. I have a 1979 air compressor with a Wisconsin 4 cylinder motor. I have used this for the last 20 yes with no problems. I went to start it this fall and got no spark. It has a wico XH2207 magneto. I started looking into it and removed the rotor button before I realized it can go on more than one way.
I did put the flywheel at TDC compression stroke no 1 cylinder and the X on
the magneito showing through the inspection plug. I need to know where to put the rotor button.
Also I have spark coming from the coil. The magneto seems to be working ok I get a good snap when it fires and the shaft is tight and turns easy. The cap looks to be in good shape as is the rotor button. I'm going to do a little more work cleaning and testing and get back with follow up questions. Thanks for any an all help A Curtis

Are you saying the rotor itself fits more than one way on it's shaft, or are you trying to mesh gears correctly?

What is the engine model number, armed with that an engine manual including mag service info can likely be found and viewed on the 'net.
WICO XH instructions

Yes the rotor has gear teeth all the way around and fit in any position. I'll get that info tomorrow and get back with that. Thanks A Curtis

Andrew, here's some info I found... "The rotor has a thick line running along the contact arm that pointed at a tooth. I put this into the center of the slant on the rotor pinion."

In other words, there' a timing mark on the rotor that lines up with a tooth on the little gear that drives it that is beveled as a mark.

Bob,
I found the marks and teeth and got everything back together.I told you guys I had no spark.but I did have spark intermittent. I was looking things over and saw that the wire coming out of the coil to the points was up against the bridge going across the magneto. I took it off the points and found a spot where the insulation was worn off the wire. I put a small section of shrink tube over it and it worked like a charm. I put a dab of white paint on the tooth of the mag so i could see it better through the inspection hole. After a couple trys I got it lined up. I can't believe it started up. the internet is a great place for info. Thank to all of you for all your help. :D
