Delco Engine

Although the Delco engine is common over in the US they are rare here in England. I came across this one in an old house in Essex where it was about to be scrapped in the 1970's. I brought her home and got her running. I have taken her to shows here in England and to one down on the German border in Holland where she always is the centre of attention when she fires up. I have a well pump (32 volt) and a grindstone to go with her.

It has found a good "home away from home"!

They are an interesting engine.

I wonder if the guys that built them would have ever imagined some would be still running and generating electricity after the better part of 100 years?

Intresting engine Majorman, is that your petrol Dexta at he side of the engine. Went
to a small Vintage show near Sleaford 2 weeks ago and a man from Donnington near
Splading was exhibiting a nicely restored petrol Dexta but I was not able to get the
serial number. MJ

I was in Australia with a friend who owned a Ford Dealership there, he was also an agent for Delco engines and has many spare parts and different sizes of Delco engines. I found it fascinating that there are no oil seals anywhere and that the engine relies on a positive draw of air through the crankcase to remain oil-tight. I knew the air intake was through the sump but not the reason for it. My old girl does not use or leak a drop of oil. Perhaps we could have learnt something from those old engines.
