It is a mid 1920's Edwards Twin. Marketed as "this one engine serves all your needs from 1 1/2-6hp". It has twin mixers so one cylinder can be shut off to save fuel. It runs exactly like the 2 cyl Deere engines with the 2 power strokes 180 degrees apart.
It starts with a leather strap wrapped around the pulley on the far side. The black knob on the near side is the speed control (governor).

Actually, John Deere two cylinder "power strokes" are 90 and 270 apart.
