They usually bring a lot more than they are worth, in my opinion anyway. Not uncommon for them to sell in the 7 to 8K range. I saw one with a manageable crack in the block advertised this week for $4250, probably a decent deal if you just have to get one. They like to crack right along the parting line on the bottom of the water jacket, often from over-tightening the drain plug.

I might add that if it is cracked along the parting line on the bottom of the water jacket I would not fool around with trying to weld it, I would throw a half of a handful of Bentonite in the hopper and run it.

Unless they are in exceptional original condition or rare variations the prices of commonly found engines, even green ones, are dropping like a rock. Lots more around for sale than demand. Prices quoted so far are on the high side of what is actually selling and moving to new owners in my experience.
