Hey All, I need some help with a miller 40 gas burner, I cant get any power to weld or to the outlet, it had been sitting for awhile got the engine running great but no power. I've cleaned the slip rings with contact cleaner and still nothing any help would be appreciated. Dw

Check the brushes to make sure they move free in the holders not stuck and making good contact with a clean armature. Other connections look good and no cracked insulation or shorted wiring. If been sitting too long may need to flash it to get the residual magnetic power back.

Guess what, I have one doing the same thing. I bought mine new and used it for many years. Then I bought a couple of smaller machines and let this one set for about 3 years.I got the engine started, tuned it up and it runs perfect. Cleaned the slip rings, checked the brushes and it welded perfectly. Welded with it about 15 min.,it died and I haven't been able to get it going again.I guess i'm going to send it to the miller service center. I hate to spend a lot of money on it because of it's age. But it is a hoss when you need a heavy duty machine. If you find out anything let me know and I'll do the same.

I wanted to update you guys on the welder, I cleaned the slip rings with sand paper and low and behold I have power. I welded with it for a couple hours and so far all is fine, if I run across any info on your problem I'll let you know, Thanks for all the advice, Dw
