Odd fire Wisconsin V4 ignition ???

Have this basket case skid loader that needs dist. for battery ign. should I be looking for 1/2 speed dist. or full speed dist. that runs at crankshaft speed. I think you have to pull the engine to get at the dist. so I need what works the best.
I see they sell Pertronix for even fire and maybe for full speed odd fire but don't see a listing for 1/2 speed odd fire. any thoughts. Thanks

We don"t know which engine you have. Download a manual or if it isn"t on their list email Wisconsin Motors and they"ll fix you up. The accessories section downloads shows all the ignition units that were used on Wisconsin engines.
Wisconsin catalogs

The half-speed distributor used on the engine was the Prestolite IAD-4036A, Wisconsin Part number YF-10-S1, and was driven either by the accessory drive TF128, or off the end of the generator.
The full speed distributor was the YF-6 and is obsolete, and was always driven off the end of the generator. So the end of the generator could have one of two different distributor drives; but if there was no generator and only the accessory drive for the distributor, it was for the half-speed setup.
The main reason for the half-speed distributor was to extend breaker points life. With electronic ignition, this of course would not be an issue.
The full speed distributor was used up to and including serial number 2264162, and were all driven from the end of the generator.
If you have 11 teeth on the helical gear at the end of the generator, you have a full-speed drive gear, if it is 7 teeth, you have a half-speed drive gear.
The engine speed distributor did not use the conventional tower for each wire; the went in the cap at an angle laying flat against the top of the cap in a slot.
The magneto setup for these was engine speed also, and the magneto mounted where the generator would have been on battery ignition models.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. This helps a bunch. I seem to have an odd fire engine with a dist from a 1/2 speed even fire engine. Does not run very good as you can imagine. I hope a 1/2 speed odd fire dist. will fit into a even fire 1/2 speed accessory drive.I think the original engine engine was a VH4D and now I think I have VF4 . Has 3 1/4 inch pistons anyway. If I have room to mount a V8 hei dist I might look into that. Then I could get it fire correct with a 1/2 speed drive using the correct terminals in dist cap. You have been a big help.Thanks.

At least SOME of the half-speed distributors for odd-firing engines had the same drive gears as the even-firing engines, perhaps even the majority of them. If I had to guess, I would say those would be the Prestolite models, that were mounted down on the accessory drives.
The even-firing distributors were used on VH4D, VG4D, and V465D.
What you want is the Prestolite IAD-4036A (Wisconsin Part YF-10-S1). Should be a tag on it somewhere. If in doubt, take the cap off and look at the breaker points cam. The odd-firing cam is quite evident once you see it compared to the even-firing version.
