870 squalling noise need help when clutch is
disengaged something is squeaking constantly will u
drive and sometimes goes away for a little while it
used to only do it in reverse so I changed filters and
fluid and now its worse it does it mostly all the time.
Ive only owned the tractor for a few weeks and when I
bought it it was only doing it in reverse as well Is it air
in the system or plugged valve maybe Im new to the
70 series case and this is my first one to work on any
advise would be much appreciated

I am pretty sure by your descriptions that you have a power shift model, there is also a straight 8 speed with a dry clutch. Which do you have? Assuming it is the power shift that ..squeaking.. you call it or I would describe it as gear clashing or chattering with a whine. This is one of the planetary gear sets operating at a relatively high speed, it was designed to do that. Hopefully you have heard that while doing stationary PTO work the power shift should not be left in the reverse position. This is because of the speed that planetary is spinning and proper lubrication for it becomes an issue after an extended period so it can be damaged. Hopefully you did not do this. Sticking valves in the ..Transmission Control Valve.. that is under the plate of the floor of the operating station, see link is a common problem on these. I am no expert, just know enough to be dangerous. You would possibly get better answers on the J.I. Case forum.
Edit: I would like to clarify that sound you hear in reverse should not be heard in the 1-3 power shift positions.
