IH485 H pattern shift linkage

whope

Bought a 1986 Case 380B recently which is essentially an industrial ih485 from what I have come to understand. Tractor will not shift into 3rd/4th gear, I have narrowed it down to the linkage as I am able to shift it just fine with an adjustable wrench when the linkage is detached. The linkage isn't in the easiest spot to troubleshoot especially with the aftermarket prairie cab fitted on it. Hoping someone is familiar with the shift assembly and can answer a question for me. When pulling lever towards seat to engage 3rd/4th, the arm at the bottom of the selector is engaging with the gate closest to the housing. Is the shifter supposed to engage with this gate and rotate or pass below it allowing only the 3rd/4th cam to rotate?

Have attached picture of linkage and highlighted the gate in question. If the shift arm is supposed to pass below the gate I will look into the spring/pin below the shifter as possible cause. Away from home for a few days, just trying to narrow down my options when I get the chance to work on it again.[/img:312b05acd4]
