I have new starter for my 1952 8n.
DUH!
I mistakenly spun the ratchet drive and locked
it . I need to unlock it before installing it.
I have tried the method from YouTube to try
to unlock it. NO DICE.
Does anyone have a suggestion to unlock it .
Thanks so much for suggestions.

Hello papa welcome to YT. Not a Ford guy but will take
a stab at this. I would think the starter can be installed
anyway, the drive will just engage the flywheel gear
once installed. Then when the engine starts and spins
up the drive will reset as normal. See if a Ford guy
chimes in to agree or give me a KO!
Just FYI, in the future if you have more questions on
your 8N I would suggest posting them in the 9N, 2N,
8N forum. See link.

It is possible but harder to do as the gear is in mesh & not much wiggle room. If you have a good bench grinder with a 6 inch wire brush it will make it retract. Spin it in the direction that the flywheel would.
