Ford 860 starter replacement

After only 70 years of use, my starter has failed. I ve done starter repair kits in the past, but I think it s just beyond repair at this point, so I m going to replace it.

Two questions:
Are there any modern starters that you can use on this tractor (ex. Like something I can pick up from NAPA or AutoZone)?

I have a 12v conversion, the direct replacement would have been a 6v, should do the direct replacement or find a 12v starter?

Thanks,
Jeff

This site lists several starters (6 or 12 volts) for the Ford 860. You state you have a 12 volt conversion: if that means your tractor is 12 volts then I would
go with the 12 volt version, if it were my tractor. See, Market Place upper left of page and click on Tractor Parts. Or call 800-853-2651 to talk with
someone that can take your money.

What makes you think your good old starter is beyond repair? Unless the windings are burned up, all you need are brushes and maybe bushings.

I would never consider a new or rebuilt starter over trying to repair the original. If you get a new one, it will never be as good as the original.

My 860 has been converted to 12v for going on 20 years, the 6 volt starter is still going strong.

Just my point of view.
