Piston sleeves

I am installing piston sleeves in a Case VAC. Service manual says to insert sleeve allowing .001 to .004 of an inch above engine block. Does anyone
know an easy way to do this?

(quoted from post at 16:44:43 09/28/23) Yes. They are wet sleeves.

In general, you need to clamp them down and verify that they extend above the block within the prescribed dimensions.

If too high, the head gasket won't seal in passages away from the sleeve/there may be debris in the sleeve counterbores.

If NO protrusion the counterbores may be worn, for some engines shims are available to raise the sleeve to ''spec.''.

For good info pertaining to your CASE, surf a bit father down on the index page to the CASE-specific Forum, the CASE GURUS are there!

You will want to use a dial indicator with a bridge to hold indicator. In the picture I was using a flaring tool to hold indicator with a spacer under the outer ends of the flaring tool. Kind of hokey but did the trick. You simply 0 the dial on top of block and move over to the sleeve and see what it is at? You will want to check all around sleeve in 90 degree or so increments. If not enough protrusion I have never used shims, just had machine shop skim/deck the top of block. A lot of the time it needs decked anyway.
