I have. a Case VAC 14. I am preparing to install the cylinder head. The parts drawing shows washers to be used pt. No. VT 4529. Can anyone tell me if
these are flat washers on lock washers?

This is what a search using the part number comes up with on Messicks site. They don't show a spec, however I will guess it is hardened (grade eight).

Under the head nuts I would use grade 8 machine washers. A machine washer has a smaller OD and is usually a bit thicker than a regular flat washer.

Try a grade 8 SAE flat washer. SAE washers are generally a smaller ID and OD and than the USS ones.

Strange, the G49404 washer shows up used in a lot of newer equipment. If they discontinued that number, I would have expected they would have substituted a different one, just like the G49404 washer was substituted for the VT 4529 washer.
