Oliver 1600 Diesel to Gas Engine Swap

Yes, you read the topic right. I have an Oliver 1600 diesel. It needs rebuilt and I cannot afford to have it down for very long. (Need it to move hay for cattle in a couole months) I'm wanting to send the diesel engine to someone for the rebuild. I have found a gas engine for it. Is it just a straight swap or are there things that need changed for the gas to fit? Thanks

Assuming it is also a 1600 engine, the starter is different, and perhaps the flywheel. Air cleaner is different. Fuel return line to fuel tank
needs to be plugged. Throttle/Governor l linkage is different. Fuel shutoff cable becomes the choke. Manifold preheater needs to be
disconnected so it doesnt short to ground.

Maybe a few other things, but the block itself should bolt up no problem.

Thanks. Yes, it is an Oliver gas engine out of a 1600. The bolting to the transmission was the biggest question. I appreciate the help.

TCtotal Hydra- Power will bolt right up. Throttle linkage is different
as stated plug return line on the fuel tank. I got lucky and found
throttle linkage and air cleaner assembly on EBay.

Do you plan to remove and resell the gas engine and fittings after the diesel engine is rebuilt? You might be time and money far ahead to simply buy another tractor to use and then resell when your good tractor is ready.

Caution: An extra tractor can be very handy, you may not want to resell one.

The plan is to resell the gas engine once the diesel is back in it. I am currently looking at another tractor. The Oliver is sort of a labor of love type project. It's been on the farm since 1980 and belonged to my grandfather. It will get passed down to my son who will hopefully always keep it on the farm.

I do have another question. I cannot seem to locate a source for injectors for the diesel. Anyone know of any?

(quoted from post at 04:40:47 09/13/23) Why not rebuild the injectors you have, the nozzle tips are replaceable to make injectors like new again IF the bodies are good.

Not opposed to the idea of rebuilding them. Just not sure of where to get the parts for the rebuild. One of them were leaking as well. Wasn't able to figure out why.

On another note, the gas engine is bought and should be shipped today. I've been looking for an air breather assembly online but they seem to be hard to find. I'm thinking I can modify the one that's on it now if need be. Anyone ever done that before?

I told you to send me an e-mail. There were 2 different air cleaner for the gas engines. Do you have the tools to do the injectors?

I have tried to PM you a couple times. When I click on the "PM" on your profile, it takes me to a blank page...???

I'm not sure of I have the tools to do the rebuild. If I don't have something needed, I'm sure I could acquire it.

While I am not an accomplished mechanic by any means, I usually can figure an issue out and get it fixed. I've never done an engine swap before, but yet here I am about to go down that road.

And though I am in law enforcement now, the majority of my career was spent as a steel fabricator. I have no doubt I can figure out the air cleaner situation if I cannot find one to purchase. Just wondering if anyone has ever used the one for the diesel and converted it to a gas?

As an old friend told me about working on mechanical stuff, "it's just a big piece of metal".

Ok, the videos I've watched of pulling the engine out of the 1600, it seems they get pulled with the Hydra attached. Is this a requirement? Or can the engine be pulled leaving the Hydra in the tractor? Are there bolts that cannot be reached with both units in the tractor? Thanks
