need to take a 16th out of a yoke for my post hole auger shaft to fit not an oem driveline and both are exactly 1 3/8 inches trying not to take it to a machine shop dont have a lathe. is there a drill bit or reamer to take of small layer of metal

thanks glen tomek

If you can figure out what the make and series of the driveline are you might be able to find a surplus, correct yoke one the 'net quite reasonably.

BT,DT, several times.

Are the bore and shaft both EXACTLY 1.375 inches? Seems like you would only need to remove a few thousandths. Have you tried heating the yoke and/or chilling the shaft?

I would look closely for burs or damage.

Very unlikely it would have been manufactured that way, they should be standardized to work with each other
if that close.

thanks for taking time to help i noticed that the yoke which is a smooth bore has a thin polished sleeve press fitted in to it making it not fit. i ordered it for a 1 3/8 splined shaft and thats what i got i failed to say the smooth shaft was also 1 3/8 and they sleeved it to 1 1/4 its a wesco driveline my fault i found the notes i made on the order it says its a 1 1/4 instead if the 1 3/8

thanks to all Im new and after reading your responses I went back and found out i bought it for a 1 1/4 shaft and they took the 1 3/8 and sleeved it down to 1 1/4 so now whats the best way to remove the sleeve without opening up the u joint

Should just be able to drive it in towards the unjoint. Then cut it with a cold chisel through the spaces in the yoke. If the chisel will not cut it drill holes through it. Hopefully you can collapse it enough to get it out of there.

The easiest way I know is to heat the inside of the sleeve with a tourch and melt it. It will puddle and run out. Then you can peal it out with a chisel or screwdriver . I used to do it on exhaust pipe every day

It sounds like this is an assembled joint unit so you likely do not want to use heat on it, or the u-joint seals will be damaged. You may be able to cut a slot in it with a cape or diamond point cold chisel to allow it to collapse. A Dremel or die grinder with a burr bit or small stone could grind a slot in it to collapse it as well. If you have room a reciprocating saw with a hacksaw blade would work to cut a slot as well. You might be able to use a hand hacksaw by putting the blade through the yoke then attaching to the frame.
