Installing bearing cups and steel balls into IH 560 manu

Good afternoon,

Looking for feedback from anyone who has experience
refurbing a steering column on an IH standard 560 or
other model using manual steering.

The parts book calls for a bearing cup and 14 steel
balls for each cup at both ends of the worm gear.
Besides the retaining rings that hold the bearing cups
from sliding off the shaft, are the steel balls just
supposed to sit up against the outer machined ends of
the worm gear? Picture of one end of the worm gear
attached. I havent gotten new cups or balls yet, but it
just seems as though the balls will just fall out. The
picture shows one of the old cups. All the old balls
were gone because expansion cap had come off and
they had fallen out. Thank you

I believe they are just trapped in there.

Glue them in with some old fashioned stiff heavy wheel bearing grease during assembly.

I would squeeze the snap ring together for a tighter fit though.

Steve,
Thank you for the common sense reply. Your suggestion should work perfectly.
Really appreciate the feedback.
