Connecting Rod Bolt Question

A connecting rod bolt snapped (pictured right) on a Farmall H engine. The orginal bolt is in the middle that has a stationary washer attached to it. The
replacement bolt I purchased is on the left. The new bolt doesn't have a stationary washer and is slightly longer. My question is does that matter?

The broken bolt looks bent. Did it fail running?

If so I would seriously consider having the rod reconditioned.

Let the machine shop fit new bolts. They will know what will fit properly. As long as the rod is machined with the bolts that will be in it, it should be good.

You didn't mention where you sourced the bolt, is it from the OEM, or just the common off-the-shelf bolt is appears to be?

Surely after ONE of the bolts got bent and broken like that you are planning to replace the other one, as well?

The lack of the "captive" hardened washer would affect torque, as well.

The unthreaded area of many rod bolts is precision-ground to size and acts to align the cap and rod.

And I ABSOLUTELY agree with "Steve" that the rod needs to go to an automotive machine shop and be professional checked and resized and straightened as may be required.

Since this is not a high HP engine using "torque to yield bolts" I'd be comfortable using used bolts before I'd use the incorrect replacement.

If you got the bolt anywhere other than the automotive machine shop, just toss it in a bin and order what you need through them. They work everything together to make your job come together at the end. They have resources for parts that you and I could only dream of.
