It was rubbing the flywheel a bit. Still no spark. Tried to get it to pop on ether but nothing. Got on youtube to figure out the mag. Should be 2500 to 5000 ohms from the plug wire through to mag frame and the switch tab and I got 2700. 0.g ohms from the plug base to the mag frame so ground is good. Magnet seems strong enough. Anything else to look for?

Not sure what your working on but I have had more then one time that the shut down part goes bad and stays grounded. Had that happen on my push mower a few years back so the wire just hangs out by the muffle so to shut it down I touch the wire to the muffler

Not much else repairable about the ignition.

As long as you're spinning it fast enough, it should spark. If not about all you can do is replace the coil assembly.

This is new enough to be pointless, correct?

Wear on the flywheel side bushing for the crankshaft will let it drag sometimes also. The magnet will tend to pull the slack towards it when it passes the coil lamination.
