1st ever using and or owning a tractor.
Always wanted an old Ford 8n and found one close for cheap.
Engine starts right up with minimal choke.
Idle is strong and steady, no missing in timing.
gauges work Amp and oil.

Clutch is noisy when idling and quiets once engaged. (bearing)

Stinking rear hub is seized on one side. heat and wedges didn't work. Puller and heat next option.

Then have to figure out what is holding onto the differential inspection cover. Right side is hanging up somewhere internally.

steering is sloppy as a pig pen.

lots of parts missing and more I have yet to figure out.

Going to us it for anything or do you just want a Ford N series ?
How about a tractor with a real drawbar, live PTO, live hydraulics , a SCV, a creeper 1st gear, a creeper reverse, 3 pt hitch and working brakes ?

I won't discourage you from buying one, but those things are as common as dirt. I'd keep looking for one ready to ride and drive. It
shouldn't take more than an hour to find one. Leave that one for a parts tractor or for somebody who knows them.

If you have always wanted an 8N get you
one! Great little tractors. Easy and fun
to work on. Parts plentiful and easy to
find. Lots of good advice here. And if
you do Facebook there are several groups
dealing with N series Ford tractors.
Don't let anyone discourage you. My dad
has an N and loves it.

have a 48 with a Sherman backhoe. 8N is not as nimble as a mini excavator but so far it has done everything my last two rentals have done. Wished I had looked sooner.
