delco regulator 6v neg grd problem

i have a delco reg that i need to polarize every time i restart the engine.

can i fix that? condenser? or get new one?

which one now? this reg has [u:b16f90254f]4! tabs[/u:b16f90254f], the middle two need shortened when i start the engine...

which model delco do you recommend? my to30 is 6v neg grd pertronix new starter generator 6v gas turn off/on relay....dont want to switch back to points and alternator. stuck with regulator.

First of all its the GENERATOR NOT THE REGULATOR THAT GETS POLARIZED and it shouldn't be needed over and over again. Use a jumper wire to
momentarily flash/jump the VR's BAT and GEN/ARM terminals together to polarize and you should get a small spark when you do so...

NEXT if its a 4 terminal VR (BAT FLD LOAD and GEN/ARM) versus only a 3 terminal (BAT FLD GEN/ARM) often the GEN/ARM is the one underneath
or off on one corner all by itself THE VR NEEDS WIRED CORRECT TO WORK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BAT to the LOAD (NOT battery/starter) side
of ammeter,,,,,,,,,,FLD to gennys FLD Post,,,,,,,,,,,,GEN/ARM to gennys ARM post,,,,,,,,,,LOAD feeds loads like lights and ignition often
via to the switches BAT Input terminal

Its possible to use EITHER a 3 or 4 wire VR if its wired correct

BOTH the VR and Genny need a good ground. And you obviously need the correct VR to match your genny and battery

I dont know what youre shorting together ??? Maybe youre over riding and pulling in (closing) the Cutout Relay ???? I would avoid doing
that lest you damage the VR !!!!!!!!!!

Get the VR and genny wired correct,,,,,,,,,Polarize the Genny,,,,,,,,,Insure BOTH VR and genny are well grounded,,,,,,,,,,,If she dont
charge work through my Troubleshooting Procedure linked below to find the problem

Thats enough for starters Im sure I missed a few things and the other fine gents can add more to this yayyyyyyyyyyyy

f course, I can not say they do not exist, but I sure would like to see photo of Delco VR with 4 terminals on the same side.

All I've seen are as I noted, the GEN/ARM is often underneath or off one corner all by itself. But I havent seen them all lol
