Wheel sticking on IH 560

I’ve got a 1959 IH 560. Recently, the left rear wheel will stick and
start to skid when pushing the clutch in. Any idea if this may be the
brake that is always activated even though the brake pedal is not
being pushed?

If I'm not mistaken, those have the same disc brakes that the Olivers had. There are three balls in the center of the actuators and three strong springs that hold the halves together on the balls. You'll have to take them apart and clean everything up so there's no rust or gum on the balls. If those springs go bad the halves won't come back together right and let them release either.

Thank you for the info. I looked at the schematic for the brake on this 560. Probably the same premise you mentioned with rust/gum on the balls, however this system shows to have 10 and not three.

rrlund, thanks again for the reply. I took the hub apart this afternoon and it was worse than just rusted balls. The entire mechanism is rusted solid. Got the springs off of it, one broke, but I’ve got penetrating spray on the rest to get it loosened so I can get it apart.

I had one seized up like that on my Oliver 1550. A loaded tire shot chloride on it then it sat all winter. Every place where things hinged was stuck solid. Those are the same brakes. I don't remember off the top of my head what company manufactured them for both companies.

Hi rrlund,
Thanks for the info. Did you use anything special to get yours cleaned up and operational? Replace any of the parts?
Thx

I had a parts tractor here that had a good one in it. PB Blaster probably would have gotten it freed up if I'd have taken the time.

Bendix brakes....lots of tractors use those or variations of the Bendix type brakes.

Seems like you could buy a kit at one time with new balls and springs....but I'm thinking that was for a Case
