I want to clean up an old pair of aluminum brake drums, but I don't want them to end up as rough as they would if I used black beauty. What is better for this glass beads or walnut shells?

I would think walnut shells would leave
less pits in the aluminum

I have been impressed using shredded corn cobs. Leaves a nice finish to paint. Got it for copper gutters. Worked
great to strip and paint my three point hitch.
