Sleaves with lip

I am rebuilding my 1960 dexta and the sleeves that came from reliant have a lip, mine do not. I can see having the lip being an advantage as it holds the sleeve in location. Is there any issues with simply cutting the relief groove for the sleeve?

Do u have a enf steel in the block to
do so with out getting in a water or oil
galley. You could cut some in the block
then after there in mill the top of the
sleve to be the same as the block deck.

I'm NOT able to address your specific concerns as per above...however.....

I have ample experience with the Perkins 3 cylinder diesel "A3.152" as used in the MF FE 35 X......

I always maintain the "stand off" of the power cylinder liners as per SERVICE manual specification...

NOTE...CHROME PLATED CYL LINERS have a different "STAND OFF" as compared to CAST IRON CYLINDERS..

CAST IRON CYL. LINERS (original)....FLUSH to .004 BELOW TOP FACE of ENGINE BLOCK..

CHROME PLATED CYL. LINERS (original).... .001 >.009 BELOW TOP FACE of ENGINE BLOCK....

NOTE*

The Composition / plating of the PISTON RINGS shall be decided by... if your liners are Chrome plated or Cast Iron

Tom,
A good man with a cyl boring bar can cut a counterbore for the flange.

The 401 (8600 etc ) are bored block ,no sleeve. The repair sleeve for

those engines are flanged and need a counter bore. have done quite a few.

Also the IH 282 early ones had flanges and were light press fit ,later

ones were heavy press fit.late ones were supposed to be .045 above deck.

All the ones I took apart were always near 0 above deck. IH was so sure

that they would slip down that the book said that .015 above deck would

be alright . The cure was to cut a counter bore and use the earlier sleeve

with .001-.004 above deck. have done many of both.

Here is where I am confused. The fellow with the manual photo says below the deck. And you say above the deck. The IT manual says .001 to .004 below. My old ones were around .003 above, but they were lipless and had a leaking head gasket. The block is a bit to tall for my mill so its headed to the machine shop as soon as I know what to tell him
