valve adjustment

can anyone tell me the procedure for adjusting the valves on a mid sixties ford industrial with a 172 diesel. my manual is 100 miles away buried in my nephews shop.

I do it this way, firing order 1243. When number four valves are overlap/rocking, exhaust almost closed and intake starting to open set both rockers on cylinder one. Turn engine clockwise 1/2 turn watching #3 rockers at rocking overlap, exhaust almost closed/intake starting open set both #2 valves. Turn another 1/2 turn and set #4, one more 1/2 turn and set #3. Easy to do when you remember pistons 1 and 4 are together at TDC, and 2 and 3 are paired together also. Works well on six cylinder inline engines too.
