Need Methods to stop and prevent rust on cast iron

I am refurbishing a 1946 Ford 2N and I have some pretty deep rust pitting on the cast iron transmission case. It s under the battery and at some point in its 70 years a battery had puked acid into the casing underneath. I have pitting about 1/4 inch deep. I know to stop rust you have to get it all out. Other than manually removing the rust, is there anything I can use to help prevent rust from coming back?? I plan on wire brushing all the loose rust out but I am hoping there is a chemical I can use to help stop it.

NAPA carries a product that oxidizes black, and seals it, it then acts as a primer, if you wanted to fill it.

I would imagine Fluid Film would work on cast. I know it stopped the rust on my pickup fenders dead in its tracks two and a half years ago. It comes in a spray can like WD40.

Phosphoric acid works pretty good but the metal would then need to be coated with epoxy primer to keep the rust from coming back.

I would use any one of the products mentioned but first I would clean the heck out of everything extremely well with a heavy solution of Baking Soda and water to neutralize any acid residue. then let dry and clean again with either or acetone to remove any oily residue.
Good luck
