Massey Ferguson 255 Rear rim

Howdy everyone! My family has a Massey Ferguson 255 with a bad rear rim on the back right. The tire was weighted with whatever liquid they put in those tires to weight them and had rusted through and thus the rim cracked allowing all the liquid to escape and left us with a cracked rim that we are told cannot be welded. So we are in the market for a power adjusting or spinout rim with four rails that can hold a 16.9x28 tire. My question is, could we get away with buying a smaller rim (12x28 or 13-14x28) and still use that same larger tire on it? We have a dealer trying to sell us a brand new 12x28 rim but are unsure if the tire will fit. They claim they cannot find a rim of 16.9x28 size. Could this be true or b.s? We have heard negative feedback of this dealer so we are a little hesitant to proceed without some advice and research. We are also looking for some other dealers in the PA, NY area and/or places to look for rear rims. Any advice, thoughts, and information would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

The 16.9 X 28 tire should be on a 15 inch wide rim, but I would not be afraid to use a 14 inch wide rim. The 12 inch wide is too narrow, and the 13.6 X 28 tire is called for that rim.

ieseltech is right.
16.9 X 28 is the tire size not the rim size , 15 X 28 , 4 rail rims are available and Rt or Lt are the same rim .

I had 16.9 x 28 tires on a tractor for two years 15 years ago. That was for competition, and was very unusual. That is very wide for 28 inch. PA rails makes them very very unusual. I would go for more common.
