560 Thrust Bearing Flange

Hi folks. Have Farmall 560 in-frame rebuild ready to order kit. Crank is in, sleeves are out. To order kit, I evidently need measurement of flange of thrust bearings although have no intention of replacing. Can such dimension be obtained with crank in block?

Most inframe kits do not come with main bearings so it is odd that they are asking for that info. But I would reconsider not replacing the mains. I helped the neighbor get parts for a C221 in a 460 and it needed the mains replaced, they were not in the greatest of shape.

Beware that there are different pistons depending one which head you have, fire crater or step head.

I agree that it is an odd requirement. I appreciate your comment. I'm just trying to figure out how to draw that measurement.

I didn't see that you mentioned if gas or diesel.

If gas 263, smaller bearing flange size was used engine serial number 501-36,693, then was increased to 3-3/4" for serial numbers 36,694 and up.

#3 main bearing and the thrust flanges are all one piece on this engine, and if you remove that bearing cap and lower insert you can then measure the O.D. of the thrust flange.

It does appear that the connecting rods and their insert bearings did NOT change during 560 production, so if you are definitely not going to change the mains the thrust flange diameter shouldn't be an issue.

(If diesel, small thrust bearing flange was used engine serial number 501-44,821.)

Bob- This was an extremely helpful reply and answers my question(s) perfectly. I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Simple to measure there was only two sizes. The smaller dia. for the early engines. Just a note here, I found when working on one 560 when I was in the engine that the diesel and the gas crank had superseded into the same part and the gear on the front of the crank has the same numbers on them. So I have a gas engine with a diesel crank in it. You can use a smaller diameter crank thrust surface in a larger milled one but not the other way around. That tractor actually has the diesel oil pump, crank, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and starter as the tractor was originally a diesel. Maybe I should have bought a different engine but this was cheaper and more satisfying to make work. Diesel engine was locked up and the pump was shot also, it had sat for 35 years that way.
