Just Figured Out This Valve Tick

Okay, so I posted an issue previously, "Can't figure out this valve tick." Well, today I did. After reading all the responses from people with far more experience than I, I pulled the valve cover and decided to run the engine with the cover off and physically attempt to locate the offending rocker/tappet etc. So I started the engine and behold all "valve tick noise" is 100% gone. I couldn't believe it. So... I looked very carefully and found that the rear oil tube was loose in the holder and was pulsating under certain condition and was hitting the top of the valve cover. I've attached some pictures. The only thing I may do now, is put a new lower grommet on that oil tube. Does anyone know if I can do that from the side engine plates without having to pull the valve cover again since I put it back together. How important is that lower grommet? I imagine it would lesson oil pressure if not tight. Again, this is the rear tube that oils the rockers. No broken valve springs, or bend push rods, rocker shims seem okay. Thanks everyone for the excellent insight and knowledge you shared with me.

Probably not much to do with oil pressure, but if missing, might not properly oil rocker arms. Virtually certain that tube must be pulled up to replace that O-ring/grommet.

see any wires or anything holding it down
I put a new o ring on top and the other
end is seated in the hole so it seems
pretty solid now.
 
Back in the seventies, I went to look at a 1957 Dodge flathead 6 pickup that I liked. The owner was the mechanic at a local service station, and had a good reputation. Before we started it up, he told me there was a low speed knock that sounded like a rod- he swore on a stack of bibles that the rod and main bearings were correct, and that this mystery knock was driving him nuts. He got in and started it up, and sure enough, there was a low RPM knock. I fiddled under the hood, and long story short, found that the head bolt block heater (the kind that has a plug on the end of the bolt) was tapping against the air cleaner. Problem solved. A deal was made, and I drove many trouble free miles in that old Dodge. These things are put on earth to try us. unc
