Service plate leak on 1987 ford 450 loader backhoe

I noticed clear fluid dripping from weep hole around the cotter pin when a friend was using the backhoe to move some logs.when he put the tractor back down and stowed the backhoe. It stopped leaking . The tractor was barn kept and we'll cared for with only 430 hours on it. Any one know what I'm looking at here, i would appreciate any help.

Clear like water or clear like clean oil? Did you get some on your finger to see what it is? Is this a weep hole in a plate under the clutch area? More info and a photo might help.

Hi Jim, the liquid was light oil with a bluish tint. The trans and hydraulic oil was just changed before I bought the machine.I'll try to get a picture of the weep hole but it was in the center after the bell housing.

It is fairly common to have a weep hole in the bottom of a clutch area. The cotter pin is installed loosely so it can move around and keep the weep hole open. Oil coming from the hole is a warning. It sounds like you might have a seal or gasket leaking at the front of the transmission, based on your description of the oil. Dark or black oil would indicate a rear main leak to me.

There may have been some oil pooled inside that ran out when the machine tipped as it worked. I expect splitting the tractor is the only way to get into it to fix it. Others may have other thoughts.

I have to ask. Is this a one owner tractor and are you sure the meter has always worked and never been changed? 430 hours on a 1987 tractor is a rarity.

It was an estate sale and the farmer hardly used it and it looks like and moves like new. The brakes stop on a dime with out much effort and the backhoe is in brand new condition and everything else is smooth. It was barn kept and came with the original owners manual.
I would like to be sure, do to my experience being limited what is a good way of knowing. Even if there was a switch up I don't think they drop the hours so low. I think if I sold it for parts I'd get easy 8000.00 for just the backhoe and that's more than I paid for the machine.
Jim you may be right about some excess oil being drained out when it was elevated, when I was using it earlier I didn't raise it so high and I checked and nothing was leaking out the weep hole. I'm going to keep my eyes on it , because even with low hours if it's standing still seals can dry out.

Looks like it's been recently repainted and it may have had the dash panel swapped out at some time.
Ether way it's a nice looking machine and sounds like you got a good deal.
I'd use it and keep a watch on the transmission oil level, if it doesn't leak bad I wouldn't mess with it, it's a pretty big job splitting one of those tractors.

Thanks Jim I'll do that and pray for the best.
