3/8 to 1/2 Hydraulic Lines

I am mounting a front blade on my 1977 Ford 3600. My hydraulic connection is at the rear and appears to have a 1/2 female connector. My new hydraulic cylinder (4000 psi) is at the front of the tractor and appears to have 3/8 fittings.

I'm wondering what opinions there are for how I should make the connection. It's almost 10' from front to rear. I could use a single 1/2 hose the whole way and step it down to 3/8 for connection to the cylinder. Or, I could mount a short (24 inch) 3/8 hose to the cylinder and then step it up to an 8" 1/2 line.

Thoughts?

You can get 1/2" or 3/8 hoses made with either size fittings on the ends. I don't think it will make a big difference for that application which size hose you use, but I would make the hose(s) one length of hose and not have any extra couplings or connections to leak. Use appropriate adapters in the cylinders for the hose ends you chose. I would lean towards female JIC swivels on the cylinder hose ends with a male JIC adapter in the cylinder. I would use male pipe to match the coupler threads on the remote end.

Unless you already have them, you do need to get the proper male coupler ends to match the remotes (snap couplers) on the rear of your tractor. Those will thread on the ends of your hose(s), they are easiest to find with pipe thread was my reason for saying male pipe thread on the tractor end of the hoses.

Thanks - I went out and picked up a 10'
3/8 line, a 3/8 to 1/2 connector, and a
1/2 male connector and hooked it all up.
Worked great!
