repaired 1971 ford 5000 power assisted steering worm shaft ...tractor now only steers to right and back to center ... no steering to left ...what did i do wrong and how do i fix it ???

You're saying it won't turn left, or no power assist to the left?

If it won't turn left, as in hits a hard stop, sounds like the rack is out of time with the pittman gear.

It was not taken apart at the splines but at "tie rod" ball on arm . If I am not mistaken that should not affect timing. Lower part of steering box was not opened. Only top end down to worm gear . I had to unscrew worm gear because of rusted on upper shaft. Finally got it apart and slid shaft back in nut before inserting the 28 balls. Do you know if the 28 worm gear balls need to be fed in the shaft a specific way or do I need to start with the worm gear shaft at the top , then feed 28 balls in as I screw worm gear back in? Would this affect the position of worm shaft rotation in relation to piston ? THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP!

Can you recommend a good repair manual for this tractor . Its a
1971 Ford 5000 ...the IT Manual FO 42 is a little bit thin on some details. Thank you!

Got'er done ... worm gear needed to be rotated to specific spot before feeding 28 balls in...also coated worm gear with grease to hold them in place.
