What's the best and easiest way to install deten ball in shifter rail in 2N

Probably pull off top cover. Might be under the steer column.

Gosh, you mite as well start at the beginning of the story and tell us HOW it came about that you think your "deten ball" has gone missing!

It would not stay in 3rd gear I took the top of the rear end and the top of the transmission removed the 3/8 bolt that holds the shifter rails in then removed the starter and droved the rail out the back through the starter hold and just like I thought the spring was broke and the deten ball was missing there for is why I came to the conclusion that I thought that was why it wouldn't stay in 3rd gear but anyway thanks for the comments I have it fixed I hope I have explained this to you enough any more questions feel free to ask
