Wobbly front pto

I have a mf1655 and the front pto is
very sloppy.l have the motor out and
on my work bench.2 big questions for
the Onan gurus. Can this be fixed and
does it even matter.

The bearings are probably going bad. If it gets too wobbly it will wear the clutch coil and possibly short it out If you can swing it,replace it with a new upgraded pto clutch with the larger bearing and relay actuated engagement ,instead of direct wired. It's easier to replace it now while it is on the bench than later on in the tractor

Gonna try and post a pic of the crank shaft and key.Not sure if it is damaged

No, that does not look good. The key will need replacing, but the key way is obviously wallowed out. Good chance the OD of the shaft is worn too.

No easy fix short of a new crankshaft or try building that one back up.

Might try a new PTO, new key, new bolt, clean the shaft to bright metal and red locktite the new clutch on.

Maybe...

Thanks for the input Steve.l have a second machine so l took the PTO off to have a look. That key was straight as well as the channel on the shaft.Looks like a motor swap.
