Am considering buying a HD 5 dozer for bout 1200 bucks. there are some parts missing when it comes to the transmission. MY question is where you can get parts?

I have a HD5 with front loader I parked in running order 30 years ago. Someone, possibly the scrap man if no other interest will get it soon. Parked in central ND

Did you see the pics I posted? Idk if they made it on there on not. Anyway, central ND? WOW. Not even sure if I have a vehicle that would make it there. Lol well if I get this thing I might have to make a trip if nothing else works out. Thanks.

I bought my HD5 without the 2-71 Detroit diesel engine. I repowered it with a 302 Ford gas engine and used it to clear some rocky land I bought. The undercarriage is worn and the loader cylinders leaky, but it did the job.

Looking at your picture, I think all it is missing is the clutch PTO and driveshaft back to the transmission input shaft.

On mine, that was all missing along with the engine.
We fitted that little Ford V8 equipped with a short tail 3 spd pickup transmission, and fabricated a stubby little driveshaft to connect the pickup transmission to the HD5 transmission.
It worked good for us for the 5 or so years I ran it.

do you think a man could fab an adapter for a three speed or automatic to hook up to the existing two-stroke diesel? I know an auto tran in it would be a stretch but, hey, you refitted the entire powertrain. I'm no dozer guru or anything but learning you did what you did gives me hope.

With the lower rpm DD engine, you should not need an extra transmission, just a PTO which is a SAE bellhousing with clutch release fork, with a carrier bearing and output shaft. Most any truck driveline shop should be able to fabricate a driveshaft for it.

I tell you what, I sure appreciate your input on this. I'm gonna try to get this thing home but it's gotta move to get on the trailer. I've got some real hope now. Thanks. Might have some more questions later though.
