Farmall H front crankshaft oil seal

Hello everyone, I have a 1941 Farmall H that I am in the process of restoring, and have discovered that the front crankshaft oil seal is leaking. The engine is all cleaned and painted and when I went to add oil to the engine, it started to leak immediately behind the crankshaft pulley., and naturally stopped leaking after I stopped adding oil. The tractor is still disassembled partially, meaning the radiator is still off of it and various other parts so I can't tell how bad it will leak with it running.

Is the front crankshaft oil seal removed by removing the crankshaft pulley and if so can it be done without removing the front bolster to gain clearance to remove the pulley? Or does the front crankcase cover have to be removed and the seal taken out from the inside of the cover?

Thanks for any input.

if no one answers before I get off work I'll take a look at my H.

I just did the oil seal on my C and for sure the pulley had to come off and the bolster..

Once you have that damper pulley off be sure to inspect the surface where that old seal rides.
It may have worn a groove into the metal and you will need a speedi-sleeve to cover that surface.
Napa and Case/IH should have them and seal. Hal

I pulled the radiator, front bolster, water pump and fan, pulley and removed the cover. That made everything easily
accessible. I chose to remove the pump so I could replace the thermostat and re gasket everything. I am set up with all
the appropriate tools, hoist, air impact etc. I didn't time it but started after breakfast and was back together and
running by noon.

You'll want to remove the cover as it makes the seal easy to replace. I just punched it out and tapped the new one in.
Pay attention to if there is a groove in the crank sealing surface and where it's at. Make sure the new seal is in a non
grooved spot.

When I had the water pump and thermostat housing off I ran my pressure washer in the block and flushed it out. Lot's of rusty water and junk came out.
