I have a newer model 4020 thats leaking from the shaft.
I replaced the shaft and the seals. Oil ring type.
Its still leaking. Im thinking of replacing the bushing thats inside but the JD dealer does not carry it. They told me that I would have to buy the bushing which is around $150 for both and then take it to the machine shop and have them cut like my old ones. I will post a pic when I remove them. All the ones I've seen on the internet dont look the same as the one I have.

Why would they still leak?
New shaft and seals?

Replace all. if the bushings are worn the shaft will be sloppy and the seals will make no difference. make sure the shaft is in good shape as well, ive never encountered a bad one but have not done many either. surprised your dealer doesnt have bushings mine told me "no point in putting seals in without bushings"

Either talk to the shop foreman, and maybe a different parts person. Better yet go to a new dealer! Neighbor put them in his 3010 last summer, new bushings, shaft and seals. seems like you can put 2 seals on each end. Vic
