Ford '72 3500 loader/hoe

Needing to service the brakes, Wheel/axle seals on my loader. The seals are weeping just enough to dampen the shoes. In other words when I really need brakes I find myself yelling Woooooaaahhhhhh Dragon.

I have searched New-Holland's parts layouts, they list a C5NN2218B to late 1966 then a #86531521 through Dec. 31 1972.

None of the aftermarket suppliers list the newer #. almost everyone has a cross for the C5NN # but is unclear if they really fit the 3500 industrial tractor.

Does anyone know if the shoes are interchangeable. In reading between the lines it seemed that the early shoe was riveted & replacement friction material & rivets could be used for service.

I also checked a Local NH Dealer web store. Information there gave the C5NN as "no longer serviced" Call Dealer for a "superceded by" part.

New Holland's Powerview parts catalog lists the brake shoe part number for a 1972 3500 Ford tractor as 86531521. This replaced part number C7NN2218A. As your tractor is supposedly from 1972, this should be correct for your tractor and shoe number 86531521 is available at New Holland dealers. No information is given on the older C5NN2218B shoe used from 01/01/1965 through 05/31/1968 as it is discontinued.

Thanks for the reply. That really helps. The C7NN2218A is available from several of the aftermarket suppliers.

In addition I have been able to cross the older C5NN2218B to F2NN2218AA (Info from a New-Holland dealer). Also was told by an older Ford/New Holland mechanic that the that the C7NN2218A will replace the C5NN2218B. Differance being the C5NN is 1/2" narrower than the C7NN but will fit the same drum/backing plate by changing the hold down pins.

Again thanks.
