John Deere B Oil Pump Coupling

I am new to JD restoration, working on a 1944 B. The tractor runs but with no oil pressure. Through other YT entries I suspected the oil pump coupling. While removing the pump I found a piece in the bottom of the crankcase. I am assuming it is half of the coupling but it seems a little big for that. Could someone give me a idea of what the dimensions of the coupling are? The piece I found would be about 1/2" sq. inside, 3/4" sq. outside.

Thanks.

That would be it... You should be able to feel the top of the oil pump shaft through the crank cover if the crank is in the right position.

Thanks, I now have the oil pump removed and discovered that I should get some short wrenches to make disconnected tubing from pump easier. I suppose the other half of the coupling is still in the crankcase too. Are new couplings easy to locate?

Deere still has them available, #B250R, for about $40.00!

I would imagine some of the usual suspects in the restoration parts biz would have them for less.

You shouldn't need to remove anytubing to replace the coupling. Just remove the bottom oil pump cover and drop the gear and shaft assembly. By removing the crankcase cover you can put a new coupling on the oil pump shaft and re-install it. Pretty easy job.

Use a wire welder and weld the broken pieces back together. They are ment to break when the pump is frozen.

Thanks for the advice, but I already have one on order. In response to the previous tip, Yes I'll do it without removing the pump next time. This is a great way to get help on tractor projects.
