Engine5

New User
Newbie,
Ok I am trying this for a third time. I must me doing something wrong here. Anyways, Is there a way I can switch from magneto ignition to electronic ignition. Engine was locked up, but i fixed that with PB Blast.
Can I replace the military explosion proof SP wires as I will be pumping water not fuel. It is a 1966, VH4D.
Mike

It SHOULD be possible to install some version of an Autolite or Prestolite distributor, IF you can find one.

Once you have the distributor, Pertronix will have an EI module for you.

You can run normal spark plug wires from the distributor to standard spark plugs, getting rid of the RF-shielded military-grade wires and sparkplugs.

Try posting on the Stationary Engines Board. There's a couple of regulars there who MAY be able to assist in your search for a distributor.

Many of these engines were available new with either a distributor or magneto, you just need to find the right distributor, or else modify one to fit the mag drive. What's wrong with the magneto? I had one and it worked fine once I had it repaired.

First off, let me say thanks for the help. I am new to this type engine.
The only reason I was considering the change over is that I am not familiar with magnetos. I wont know if the mag works till I can find plugs and wires that are not RF Shielded, then fire her up. I will try to post a pic of the mag.

For some reason I can't post a pic, it keeps telling me that my user name is taken, well of course it is, I took it. Guys thanks for your help.

Testing a Magneto is fast and easy ! Just put
your tongue in a spark plug terminal, and turn
the magneto shaft over until the inpulse clicks!

Just look on ebay there is many parts for these but beware they are not all interchangeable!! We have had these for years they are hood engines/pumps.
