Finding obscure wheel cylinder

I need a wheel cylinder for an old ('79) J.D. skid loader, and naturally john deere gave up on parts for these years ago. But the master cylinder is the same one used on early ford falcons and mustangs, and I'll bet those wheel cylinders are also borrowed from something automotive. I must have looked at 500 wheel cylinders on ebay- nothing like it. What other avenues of investigation are open?

BTW- I tried the auto parts stores, one had a casting number cross-over, but this wasn't in it. The other places- Make, model, year please...

Find a copy of Hemmings Motor News. There's lots of places that advertise to re-bore and sleeve master & wheel cylinders to rebuild them. Just a thought.

Get the inside measurment of the cylinder. The rubber cups inside it should be marked with that measurement. Then try to match the mounting holes up with a newer one. You may have to replace both cylinders so you end up with a matched pair.

You may end up going with a different size cylinder as long as the mounting holes line up.

Would you believe: one of them is broken. The little pushrod that goes between the piston and the shoe was missing, so the shoe came in contact with the edge of the wheel cylinder and somehow broke it! I have no idea how or why.

I overlooked the obvious here- I do have a JD part number- Is there a cross over ref somewhere that might have john deere-to-everywhere?
