I have an E 80 Howard rotavator selectatilth and it needs to have a new seal put in on the left side. I have a break out of the area and I believe I can just take it apart and put in the seal from that end without having to remove the entire drive shaft, but I'd like some advice from someone who has done this before. I have not removed the gears yet, but I am marking them... is there a timing issue?? Any advice you can give me will be appreciated. Dean

you should not have to time any gears I have not had a 80 apart but we have 4 40's. you should be able to remove the side cover and pull the bearing then the seal.A couple of years ago we lost the bearing on the left and i chewed up the housing so it would not hold a seal they wanted 1300.00 for the hole assy or just800.00 for the plate. i welded a pipe the size to hold the brg. to the plate, got a sheilded brg. reoved the inner sheild and drilled a small hole in the upper part of the plate for grease pressure releif the unit has worked just fine. hope this helps good luck .
