Hydraulic cyh

Hello All, I know that this question is not about tractors, but what I have is a "GODWIN" Hydraulic dump bed lift. The cyls. blew, the style is with a inside retaining ring, the bottom is welded. I got the ring out and to the hyd. shop and got new seals. But the rod will not come out and the guys at the hyd shop said the rod can not be removed unless you cut the welded end off. This just dose not sound right to me. Have any of you had any experience with this type of cylinder?

The snap ring is probably holding the rod wiper in place. Clean off the rod end of the cylinder and look closely at the end. There is usually a cap which screws into the end of the cylinder. Sometimes there are two shallow holes on top of the cap to facilitate removal with a spanner wrench. Sometimes there are to slots cut in the outside of the cap to facilitate removal. In any case find a new hydraulic shop

Genecfc Thanks for the info, I alrady had the end cap and snap ring off of the cylinder. But the rod will not come out, I did get new seals and installed and have the cylinders working again. So I guess as long as the cylinders work not being able to get the rest of it apart won't matter for now. Again thanks for the input, thit is the way the eend comes off spanner wrench in the slots on the end caps. Donfl
