I have an 88 with a stock 310. Been pulling it in 4 mph classes , couple years. br>Got it a little lighter, would a stock 310 have
Enough power to pull 5 or 6 mph in 3rd or 4th gear
With small tires in 4000, 4500 classss? Thanks

Is your 310 a gas or a diesel?I think the 77 Oliver pictured has a N/A 310 diesel..It pulls a 5000 lb 10 mph class...It usually comes at 8-9 mph and its very competitive...It has 12 or 13x38's.

depends on track, but I would say 3rd gear shouldnt be a problem for that light of class. Probably spin out before you run out of jam. We pull with pretty much all Olivers some stock, some not so stock and under most conditions the choice of 4th gear is usually a mistake. My Dad pulled with a pretty much stock 880 wheatland deisel and always ran 2nd gear. He won his share of pulls against fellows that had more power but picked too tall a gear. I convinced him to run 3rd one night when no one seemed to be getting hold of the track. He ran out of power, but was test puller so had another go in 2nd gear and went 50 or 60 feet farther. You can guess what he thought of my advice! The moral of my story is if you are the guy pulling the gear you run is up to you. Is there such a thing as a stock 310 in an 88? I have always said there are 2 kinds of people in tractor pulling cheaters and losers! not too many admit it, but I think its a pretty accurate statement for the most part. And yes I win the odd time :)

Many tractors can go that fast in the first part of the track, - but what about when the load comes on hard !!!!!!!!!!!
