Recently saw an old u pulling real light and the axles were short, looked shorter then U standard. Turns out they are off of a G. Does anyone know what it entails to put g axles on a U, do g axles have same spline as u ? Thanks

I I think they are all the same inside. Only a G has a brass block inside for the ring gear to bump into under a big shock load. . If you are going to take it apart. Just cut your inside spline off and weld a pipe to it and weld on hubs on outside. Then while you have the bull gears out cut them in half. Or almost.

Taking off half depends on your heart rate, the type bull gear you have, two styles, one is very stout, the other not so much when you remove material. Also how you cut the weight off, -I have witnessed square cuts under the steel outside gear, and they broke, machinist should know not to cut square, radiused corners MUCH stronger. And just a regular common pipe might not be the best solution, and quality pre-heated welding is required.Natpa required ladder bars on Div 5 tractors, not one broke, but I witnessed several welded on hubs fail, in one day, GOOSE SH** welding.
