The alloy steel foundry I worked for a division of got a pattern to pour chain links about that size, anchor chain for large ships. We must have been too high priced, didn't have the pattern very long. The pattern box had holes in it to set two other links in the box and pour molten steel to connect the two existing links together. Jobs came and left. We did a LOT of work for CAT, and AM General, and General Dynamics.
I was the Buyer of EVERYTHING for a division that made and sold scrap metal processing equipment. Last two bolts I bought to hold shear blades into scrap metal cutting shears were 1-1/2 diameter, one 24-1/2 long with 12 inches of threads, 50degree keyway head, like a plow bolt, other bolt was same thing but 36-1/2 long, also 12 inches of threads. Company in Alsip, I'll, Blank Bolt Company hot forged them, they also made the anchor bolts for the Sears Tower.

I thnk my hitch will let go before that chain will. I'll need a couple more pounds of air in my tires just to hold that sucker up to 20 inches

A few years ago there was a special pull put on in Waterloo for the Argentina JD dealers that were visiting the area. The VP of the Deere group talked Brian into letting him pull his G. The first try he didn't tighten the chain and pulled the hitch pin apart. We found another one and let him try again. This time he put it in the wrong gear but made an exciting hook out of it for the crowd. They loved it anyway.

They all wanted to get their picture with the guy from Iowa with the John Deere tattoo!! Gave me a hat and bought me a few beers..

Out in the pits they were all over the tractors, asking lots of questions. Couldn't understand a think till one guy interpreted their questions for us and we could answer their questions. A real fun loving bunch of guys. The guy that drove Brian's had never driven a 2 cylinder before so Brian gave him some quick lessons in the parking lot.
