The local town has one of the last 1/3 mile banked midget tracks left running races in the US. They used to
run NTPA tractor pulls for 2-3 years. I can't believe they didn't make money but it's been 5-6 years since
they had the last one. The sled parks on a bit of a banked turn, and most tractors in a weight class ended up
within a ten foot circle on the inside of the next turn. The banking forced them downhill. A little longer
straight would have improved things a lot. Wouldn't have taken much.
When I was young, even before I could legally drive Dad and I would go to the NTPA pull held at the Henry
County Fairgrounds in Cambridge, I'll, 1-1/2 mile horse track packed hard as concrete and long flat straights.
Made for a good pull. The water all drained towards the inside of the track, for drainage, track sloped that
way, but not really enough to effect pulling tractors and pulling sleds. Most Sunday night pulls lasted till
Midnight or slightly later, sled problems one year, other years just from the numbers of tractors competing.
This was back when 5000# tractors tossed 2000# on and ran 7000#, then another 2000# and pulled 9000#. Bunch of
7000 & 9000# tractors weighted up to the 12,000# open class. You'd see the same tractors pull 3 times.

Used to pull on a 1/4 mile track at the
local county fair, if you timed it right
and got on the high side then pointed
downhill pnce it got tough gravity really
helped a guy out. Longest pull I ever had
was on a horse track, started out around
turn 4 and ended around turn 1, 437 feet
if I remember correctly
