Pulling with a bow wave

I was at a pull one very hot and dry summer on a breezy day. They never watered the track. After awhile I noticed that the sled seemed to be pulling easily, and then I noticed a three inch high bow wave of clay powder in front of the sled tires when pulling back. It was acting like talcum powder. So I thought that maybe my old stock 9000 Ford might pull the sled in 7th gear, which I had never tried before. Well I put it in 7th, slipped the clutch and got it going, and got up to full RPMs. This was before we had speed limits. The organizer was not happy. He invited me to not come back the next year. However, he passed the next spring and his sons were very happy to have me back.
